the sovietization of the U.S.
I heard a really interesting concept on the TWiT podcast episode 27...
...the sovietization of the U.S.
Because my generation has grown up under a very complicated legal stucture, in the realm of digital rights management, we have been breaking the law and caring less and less. The government, RIAA, music industry, Hollywood and various others have made claims and decrees which had little no to impact on actual behavior. Some people (me) basically break the law every single day, whether it's with cracked software and games or downloaded music and videos. We have grown up thinking that it's normal to do illegal things. In order to have what we want, we have to break the law. It's easy, no one cares, and the proverbial back is turned.
I enjoy the "sovietization" metaphor.
The market does not accurately reflect technology or the habits. If it's not working the market needs to change.
